In-Vehicle Data Collection

Over the course of two-hours, researchers will ask a participant to sit in a research vehicle, adjust the seat to obtain a comfortable posture, and put on the seat belt. Researchers will record each participant’s posture and belt fit using a coordinate measurement device. Researchers will show each participant the instrumentation in the vehicle, which includes cameras designed to record their posture and motion.

Researchers will then ask participants to drive the vehicle as if it were their own over the specified route. During the drive, the cameras and other instrumentation will record a participant’s posture and motions as well as the movements and location of the vehicle. When each participant returns to UMTRI, researchers will measure their posture again with a coordinate measurement device.
