Dear Mr. Karsten:
Thank you very much for your continued interest in HRSA’s health professions training program data.
To answer your question, no HRSA does not work with external researchers to analyze data on
health workforce program participants. These data are collected specifically for government
performance budgeting and as noted in our earlier response, statute prohibits HRSA from sharing
individual-level data.

My thanks to the HRSA Paperwork Team for their responses! It was very helpful to get clarification
on your efforts to make workforce data comparable across agencies. 

As a follow up, does HRSA work with external researchers to analyze data on workforce program
participants? Many statistical agencies allow researchers to apply through researchdatagov.org for
access to restricted datasets using secure methods that preserve confidentiality. A similar
arrangement for HRSA could augment the value of the data it collects as evidence for policymaking.
