We request an OIRA exemption to use the format of Race and Ethnicity Question with Minimum Categories Only and Examples (Figure 2), as shown below. Because the National Visitor Use Monitoring data is collected using a sample of respondents, most of whom have historically identified as being in the White category, it is expected that the number of responses in the detailed categories would not be sufficient to report the data from the detailed check boxes. Therefore, the agency feels that the potential benefit of the detailed data does not justify the additional burden on the public of reading through the additional check box options.
