VERSION 1
Research Study about Home Energy Use – Pays $40
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is recruiting participants to provide input on draft questions to the Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS), an upcoming survey about home energy use. Participants will be asked to come to RTI International’s office at [ADDRESS] for an individual interview to discuss the survey questions. The interview will take about one hour and participants will receive $40. Participation in this research is voluntary and your responses are protected as confidential information.

VERSION 2
Paid Interview about your home’s energy use
RTI International is recruiting individuals to test a draft survey about residential energy consumption for The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). EIA is interested in revising existing questions and adding new questions to the Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS). Participants will take part in an individual interview at RTI’s office (located at [ADDRESS]). During the interview, which will last about one hour, participants will be asked to provide feedback on the survey questions. An incentive of $40 will be provided as a thank you to each participant. Participation in this research is voluntary and your responses are protected as confidential information.

VERSION 3
Participate in a Study about your Home
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is testing a draft survey for the Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) about the energy used in all types of homes, including houses, apartments, and mobile homes. As part of this testing, we are interviewing adults to get their feedback on the survey questions. Participants will be asked to complete an interview about their home energy consumption. The interview will last about 60 minutes. Participants will receive $40. Participation in this research is voluntary and your responses are protected as confidential information.

Online Pretest 1
This survey is part of a voluntary research study to find out about your household energy use. In addition to asking you questions about your energy use, this web survey includes several open-ended questions specifically asking you to provide comments regarding how you came up with your answers to the questions. Your responses to these open-ended questions will be used to revise the survey questions. There are no right or wrong answers to the open-ended questions. Your feedback is extremely helpful for us to better refine the survey questionnaire. Your responses will be kept private and confidential.
The entire survey should take about 30 minutes to complete. You will receive $5.00 after you complete the survey and your HIT is approved.
Online Pretest 2
This task is part of a voluntary research study about household energy use. Your responses will be kept private and confidential.
In this task, you will sort images of household heating and cooling equipment into categories. Our goal is to learn about people’s familiarity with this equipment. The entire task should take about 4 minutes to complete. You will receive $0.59 after you complete the task and your HIT is approved.
You may not recognize some of the equipment in the images, but we would like you to take your best guess as you categorize the images. Please do not look up any information to help you complete this task. Since our goal is to learn about how familiar or unfamiliar people are with this equipment, we would rather you categorize an image incorrectly than seek outside information to guide you.
