Permission for Survey

This is the email I received from Dr. Jean Watson on 05/16/2015 who granted Renada Rochon permission to use the survey:

Dear Renada,

Thanks again for you and your VA medical system continued interest in this work.

Re: your questions:

If you wish to use the Caritas Score for one unit as a survey, you may do so; acknowledging you will send data to Dr. Brewer.

RE: other developments, in its use, nurses using it find it helps them in connecting with patients and changing their focus to the person/patient's experience rather than the medical -institutional experience alone; further, nurses have found it useful in 'rounding' refocusing to authentic connection with person, in contrast to more scripted approaches - often leading to less purposive engagements.  Do let us know how it works for the nurses’ experience once you conduct the survey.

In the meantime, re: meeting the caring science criteria with its emphasis on humans in the systems, it will be easier to have a phone conversation with you and/or others to explore how to move forward to meet the criteria. 

You may want to read the latest editorial in JONA (Watson and Brewer) which outlines some of the caring science criteria and new forms of authentic evidence being sought and affirmed to be recognized as a Caring Science Affiliate.  We would love to discuss in more details with how to proceed once your interest remains.

I am out of the country until June 8 but would be happy to have phone conversation afterwards. In the meantime, if you need to contract Dr. Brewer for any help with your pilot, you have her contact information and phone number as well.
