In the American Community Survey, we collect information for units that are identified as vacant. We ask a knowledgeable respondent for answers to some of the housing questions from the ACS CATI/CAPI/TQA instrument, along with a few additional questions.
For vacant units, we ask VACUNIT_CP:

 Is this unit...?
				 1. For rent 2. Rented, not occupied 3. For sale only 4. Sold, not occupied 5. For seasonal, recreational or occasional use 6. For migrant workers 7. Other vacant |
We also collect vacancy information for units occupied only by persons who do not meet our two-month residency rule. For these units we ask TEMPSTAT:
Since no one is staying here for more than two months, I will not ask any further questions about the people staying at this unit. However, I will need to ask some basic questions about this housing unit.
 Is this unit...?

				 1. For rent 2. Rented, not occupied 3. For sale only 4. Sold, not occupied 5. For seasonal, recreational, or occasional use 6. For migrant workers 7. Other vacant |
We also collect the name, title, address, and telephone number of the person who provided the information about the vacant unit:
In order to evaluate the quality of my work, my supervisor may contact you to verify that I am doing my job correctly.
May I have your name, address and telephone number? |
